River Stångån by night
I had some work at the central post office of Linköping, which happens to be behind the Linköping Central Station. Since I hadn't biked to work today, I took the bus to the central station and walked the couple of hundred meters to the post office. Once done with my work, I walked down to the River Stångån, to a spot I'd biked to sometime last summer. When I reached the spot, I was happy that I hadn't simply gone back home, for it looked very beautiful. The moon was rather high up in the sky, but I wanted it in the frame, so had to do some awkward angling to get it. I took a couple of free-hand shots and tried to get in as much light as I could, and got this.
Having taken that, I realized that a longer exposure would get me more detail. I also found that my autofocus was steadfastly refusing to focus on the lights, instead preferring to linger on the reflection in the water. Even as I was beginning to wish I had my tripod with me, I realized that I did in fact have it! I'd loaded it in the bag when I last did some star photography and had simply not removed it! It is light enough for me have not even noticed it staying in my bag. I quickly set it up and switched to manual focus, to get a crisper focus on the lights and took this.
and this
If you see above the trees on the left hand side of the last image, you can see the Orion constellation, peeping from behind the clouds. It stayed visible for a very small time window and disappeared right back, behind the thick clouds, even as I was repacking my tripod.
